“Grease” plays this weekend at the Retro Dome. Be sure not to miss this classic sing along.

Have you ever seen those odd looking, dome-shaped buildings by the Winchester Mystery House and across from Santana Row? Do you love family classics like “Finding Nemo” or singalongs like “Grease?” Yeah, you say? Then you should come check out Century 21, also known as the Retro Dome, all this month. You can not only attend these great classics but also save the dome theaters from being demolished.

This weekend from March 7-9, Century 21 will be playing “Grease” as a sing along event. Shows are scheduled on Friday and Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 3 pm. Ticket prices vary but more information can be found here; tickets are sold online and at the door. You’ll have a chance to sing along to the songs, receive a goody bag to enjoy during the show, and watch a great movie. Be sure not to miss it.

Though Syufy Enterprises owns the actual building and the Winchester heirs own the land, a company called Guggenheim Entertainment puts on these classic movies. This group has previously produced theater productions as well and is looking for a location to continue. For now, they show these films with the hope of entertaining many people.

The Retro Dome will also host a festival presenting a film “by, for, and about” individuals with different abilities. This movie, put together by students from the College of Adaptive Arts, will be screened on March 29 at 6 pm. It is a highly recommended event to attend because it will help transform the way the world looks at disabilities. Buy your tickets or learn more about it here.

Unfortunately, these classic movies and other events might not stay for long. Even though the domes are almost 50 years old, the city wants to destroy them and create an extension for Santana Row or build new apartments. However, there is a “Save the Domes” campaign in which people are protesting against the future demolition. There is even a petition going around. As for now, the domes stay up through March. Whether or not they remain permanently will be revealed by the end of March.

In the meantime, the Retro Dome is open for all audiences, playing retro, family, and epic films that everyone should check out on the big screen.

Guggenheim Entertainment also offers a summer program where children can learn theater skills. The purpose is to get kids comfortable with the stage and enjoying their performance, whether just for fun or if they plan to pursue a career in theater. The camp goes from July 7 to Aug 1, and students from 3rd to 12th grade are eligible to enroll. More about what they do, pricing, and all your other questions can be found here.

The Retro Dome is a great place to hang out with friends and family. Be sure to support the domes and watch these classics. “Grease” will be playing this weekend; don’t miss it! Even if you can’t make it, definitely check out the other movies that will be screening in the coming weeks. View the full schedule here.
