Corona Virus 2020: Santa Clara County declares public school lockdown

Today, March 13th 2020, Santa Clara County declared a lockdown for the upcoming 3 weeks. The Corona Virus recently became a national pandemic and has become very dangerous. When I was in my 4th period, our principal Mr. Hewitson announced on the loudspeaker that starting monday, there will be no school for around 3 weeks, predicted to come back April 6th. The new virus is scary, it’s nearly impossible to know if you have the virus or not. My personal reaction at first was happiness, I was happy i didn’t have to go to school for 3 weeks. I can have some time off maybe hang out with friends if my parents let me, and no online school. Soon after, I started to realize how bad this break would be. Would I have to make up this extra time over the summer? What if one of my friends got infected? I realized how far back our curriculum in English, Math, History, and Science would be. I was expecting to return to school next week, getting ready to run my track meet, taking tests, studying new formulas and learning new things. Unfortunately those things won’t happen for the next 3 weeks. I’m not sure what i will do due to my parents strict rules after their understanding of this virus. They told me I can’t really hangout with friends. This nationwide tragedy should be taken very seriously and always remember to stay sanitary.
