Music Concert Series: Spring Has Sprung

The orchestra plays a song on stage.

On Monday, March 10, 2014, Jazz Lab, Chamber, Intermediate Orchestra, and Intermediate Band performed at Lincoln Glen Church. Jazz Lab opened the concert with three groovy pieces. As they performed, the fairly large audience was tapping their feet and fingers to the steady rocking beats. A few solos were played by Ronnie Rodriguez and Daniel Svamz.

Jazz Band finished with a song called “Cutie”. When they stepped off the stage, Intermediate Orchestra stepped on. Though there were some minor string malfunctions, Mrs. Francis had them fixed in no time!

As orchestra finished, Intermediate Band took the stage with some dim lights. A favorite song they played was a piece called “Dinosaur”. Band teacher Mr. Mackenzie then told the crowd that for this next song, the band created a few of their own instruments. The song told a story eerily familiar to a certain classic movie. If you had ever seen Jurassic Park, you could just imagine the movie happening in your head within a short 5 minutes! A few of the first chair musicians grabbed wine glasses filled with different levels of water and began to make an eery sound effect with their glasses.

A short Intermission took place, then Chamber Orchestra took the stage with some classic rock. “Purple Haze”, “Paint It Black” and “Sunshine of Your Love” were the three pieces they played, at a fast rhythmic pace. A few older audience members were tapping their feet and fingers!
