Two-hour plays are a bit too much for some people’s attention spans. If this is the case, then Lincoln has the perfect show in store for said people to come and enjoy.
The One Act Play Festival, to be held May 20, 21, and 22, is an annual event that features frighteningly original, student-written short plays, directed by students in the Drama Department. All students enrolled in a drama class will participate in their own or a classmate’s One Act, but only a select group of students were chosen as having written plays worthy of being produced on the Lincoln stage.
What started out as an average homework assignment will come to fruition as a full-fledged show, including special costumes, props, and lighting.
Lion Tales interviewed actor Mitchel Walter, Class of 2014, about what he thinks will make the One Act plays stand out this year.
What can audiences expect with this group of student-written plays?
“There’s a lot of high school humor, because it’s all student written. There are a lot of obscene characters.”
Is there one play you would especially recommend, or that stands out?
“Well, one of the One Acts is a musical that someone wrote. It’s titled ‘The Ten-Minute Musical’, and it’s written by Tess Powell.”
The One Acts Festival is expected to include 10-12 individual plays per night. Contact your favorite actor-friends to find out which night they will be performing.
Tickets can be purchased in advance here, or at the door on the night of the show. All shows begin at 7:00 p.m.
