Hundreds of People “Light the Night” in Downtown San Jose

The month of October is not only known for Halloween, but also for Cancer Awareness activities happening this month. October is filled with many events promoting awareness of different cancers and fundraising to help victims of those diseases.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) held a fundraising campaign called “Light the Night Walk” in support of blood related cancers and those who were lost to the diseases on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Hundreds of people came together and walked through the streets of Downtown San Jose. Those who made a donation of over $100 received a t-shirt and a lantern. The colors of the lanterns were each carried respective to who they were honoring. White lanterns were carried by survivors, red lanterns by supporters, and yellow lanterns by those walking in the memory of a loved one lost to cancer.

It was announced at the end of the walk that a total of one million dollars was raised from donations. The money raised goes to victims and their families, and to help fund blood cancer research.
