Winter Sports Rally!

After having amazing success this past Winter with sports, our fellow athletes were acknowledged with a ceremony at lunch Monday, March 21st in the Main Gym. The ceremony recognized winter sports that had won championships this school year. Girls Varsity BasketballBoys Varsity Soccer as well as individual athletes each from Boys and Girls Wrestling were recognized.

The individual from Boys Wrestling was Senior Ray Mendoza, who won numerous of titles this year.  Overall, Mendoza won a total of six titles. Mendoza participated in the Apple Cider Classic, in which he received 5th place, in both the Webber-Lawson Classic and Jim Root Classic he ended up in 4th place. At the Nick Buzolich Classic he advanced into 2nd place as well as in the Colt Classic. Lastly, he ended up getting 1st place in the BVAL Finals 195.

Junior Haven Olmos in Girls Wrestling won a total of 7 titles this year. Haven comes from a true family dynasty. The Olmos’ are all very well-known for wrestling. The reason for their status, is two of her older sisters, Michelle and Sarena, are former CCS (Central Coast Section)  individual champions.

Haven took the spotlight again this year by being a CIF state qualifier, finishing in 5th place in state.  Also, Haven is a three-time CCS finalist, winning her second consecutive title at CCS this year.  She was also named an All American.

Boys’ Varsity Soccer made history this year by becoming the first team at Lincoln ever to win a CCS Championship on March 7th, 2016. They played against Emerett Alvarez High school at Leigh High school, where the game was hosted. Lincoln ended up winning the championship with the score of 2-1. The team also claimed the BVAL Santa Teresa Division League Championship with the league record of 10-1-3 and the overall record of 17-4-3.

Girls’ Varsity Basketball made history as well by being the first team to advance to the quarterfinals of CCS in the history of Lincoln. In the quarterfinals, the Lady Lions played against Presentation High School on their own turf. The girls ended up losing against Presentation with the score of 60-24. Overall, even though they lost, the girls did had a record of 19-6 and are now the League Champions in the BVAL West Valley Division with the the score of 13-1.
