Kalena Peña, Journalist
Born and raised in San José, California. She is a senior at Abraham Lincoln High School. She is interested in attending a 4-year university in California, with a major in political science. She is extremely passionate about social justice and public policy. Her hobbies include creating playlists for her friends, debating philosophical dilemmas, and spending time with her dog. Her favorite music genres expand from 90s rap (The Pharcyde, A Tribe Called Quest, Das EFX, Wu-Tang Clan, etc.), to Jazz (BADBADNOTGOOD, Duke Ellington, Chet Baker, Thelonious Monk, etc.), and to alternative (Homeshake, Glass Animals, The Internet, Boy Pablo, Mac Demarco, etc.) Her goal in journalism is to spread awareness on topics usually untouched by youth.
