March Artist of The Month: Givanni Flores
For the artist of this month, March we present to you Givanni Flores!
A senior at Lincoln High School, seventeen year old Givanni is currently taking Ms. Zamora’s AP 2D design class and is really enjoying it. Givanni loves and admires art, as he said “Art is a lifestyle to me. It’s a way of life.” He absolutely loves colors and likes to work with many different materials, but his “absolute favorites are oil pastels and colored pencils.”
Givanni is a big fan of Lincoln’s arts program, he says “I love the fact that I am given techniques and advice that can help me grow as an artist,” but he also has some great feedback and suggestions for improvement of the program. He thinks that the “class time…given to teaching values and shading techniques, etc. should be increased.”
Givanni is not only an artist, but an explorer and a good observer. He shows a big interest for the artistic world out there. “I highly enjoy looking at hyper-realism art,” Givanni said. “The level of detail obtained by an artist, especially in oil paints, is surreal.”
Art seems to be a big and an important part of his life. “Art is a way of life for me. I live and breathe art everyday. Art is an escape, it’s as if it is a freedom for me,” Givanni said. To Givanni, his art pieces are “an inside teaser to artists perception of life. Through the eyes of the artist, if you will.” He hopes to convey a sense of belonging and relativity to his audience, he wants his artwork to bring the sense of realization of something at one point in their lifetime, “like a long lost memory of some sort that I know I have succeeded as an artist.”
The above art piece of oil pastels by Givanni, Delicate, depicts a purple flower, it shows a sense of movement and life through shades and the texture given to the flower. In addition the bright blue green and purple complement each other. The combination of these two cool colors create a perfect balance in the picture, conveying a feeling of peace and relaxation on the audience. Givanni says his inspiration came from his love of “movement that hid behind flowers and the vibrancy of their colors.” As to all his pieces, he holds a personal connection to this piece. “The emotional state that I had while creating this piece wasn’t the greatest, so as a form of expression I let everything in to the piece,” Givanni said.
Givanni also spoke of a possibility of him pursuing a career in art, but he has not made his decision on his future career yet, and we hope through his time in college he will be able to find and do what he will really love and enjoy. Wishing Givanni a great senior year and a bright future!
