The 2014 Lion Badminton Team Stretching before practice.

In the season of 2014, the Lincoln badminton team’s goal is to recover from last year’s disappointment; most of the matches were lost and the team dropped to C league this year.

With the team making their best efforts to re-build themselves through many changes with roster line ups, it becomes a lot harder with the loss of many key players. The reason so many players are gone is because they all graduated; since most of the players are new, it takes more time and effort to build a strong team.

This season, the experienced players will help train the new players who have little or no knowledge on the sport. The team will not face such a hassle when it comes to teaching the new players since there are many Seniors to teach and help new players like Donald Nguyen, Vivian Le, Amen Kanda, and Andrew Nguyen.

As Lion Tales asked our own sports editor and senior badminton player, Rene Chacon how he felt about the season, he said, “[I am] very excited for the upcoming season and am looking forward to teach, train and help  the new upcoming talent for this season.”  He also added  that he is looking forward to play the West Valley division. Even though this division is a lower division then what the team played last year, Chacon says it will be a way of motivation for the team to improve and move back up next year.

There is also a new player, Daniel Angel that is looking to play his first season with the team as a senior. He said, “I’m really looking forward to being a part of the team and having some badminton experiences with my teammates and partner, Rene.”

The first match the Lions will  play is an away game on March 6th against Live Oak.
