LHS Football Team Continues with their Season

The Lincoln football team played Aragon High the weekend before break- September 21. Even though they lost, they are determined to work  harder for the next game.

Varsity lost with a score of 35-7. Junior varsity also lost with 28-6.

This game was counted as a preseason game, according to Varsity player and junior, Daniel Andrade. He said, “Even though we lost, we’re going to work harder for next time; we know what to improve on now.”

“The Aragon team had been prepared and had some really good players, but even though we lost, we, as the team, are not going to take it by heart because its just a motivation to do better,” said varsity player, Benjamin Schroeder.

The previous game against Oak Grove was not only the first game of the year but also a loss for the Lions. The junior varsity team made good attempts, and ended up playing strong on defense. This year, the JV team has a few girls also. Although they have not played yet, it is a unique aspect for the football team. The score for JV was 34-12. JV player, Zoe Espinoza Cruz said, “Our loss is a win, it tells every player individually and the team as a whole about what we must do better to actually achieve these wins.”

The Varsity team played harder. They lost against Oak Grove as well, 27-14. Though the players ran on the field holding hands and practicing before the games to win, they ended up playing defense for 80 percent of the game. Within the first ten seconds of the game, the Oak Grove team attacked and after that, the Varsity Lions played their best.

Coaches yelled advice from the sidelines, the audience would roar for the team, and the band would play their music to lighten the mood. Lincoln was close to touchdowns a lot of the time, making good long runs, but Oak Grove was just one step ahead.

The players were seen on the field again playing their best on Friday, September 27 against vs. Willow Glen. Schroeder said, “The team had prepared a lot for this game, we played our best as a team.”

The Lincoln football team lost again against Willow Glen. The Varsity team score was 41-14.  The team has lost all their past games but the student body hopes for a win in the game against Westmont.

Lincoln will play Westmont on Fri.Oct. 11 at Westmont High School.
