Our Steps 2015: Taking on Issues

The Lincoln Dance Alliance, Inc. and the Lincoln Dance Department put on Our Steps 2015, which was successful. Students got the chance to choreograph their own dances for the show. Different levels of groups from Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, Folklorico, Xochitl, LHD, and Convertible dancers performed. Our Steps 2015 had three showings happening on Thursday October 8th through Saturday October 10th. It was in the Lincoln’s Black Box Theatre which began at 7:30pm on Thursday and Friday of October, but on Saturday at 2pm.

Tickets were sold out on all three days making it hard for the audience to enter the show. The show had two acts with a 15 minute intermission in between. Snacks and beverages were sold on the night of the performances as well. The first Song performed by Intermediate Dancers was called, “Let Me Treasure You” composed by “Healthy Relationships.” It was choreographed by both Thang Luu and Julia Reddy.

Our Steps 2015 was different than in years past, because the dances had a meaning and purpose. The show this year was called Humanity because it focused on human issues, issues specific to teenagers. Dances explored topics like depression, anxiety, emotional/physical abuse in relationships and family problems. The students chose songs that related to the topic.

Our steps directors were Dana Brett, Danny George, Christine Scadina, Lliana Perez, and Genesis Lbanez. Teacher assistants were Devin Caballas, Alexis Chavez, Anna Do, Serena Fueston, Crystal Garcia, Jackeline Gomez, Jade Graves, Erick Navarrete, Anna Ortiz, Matthew Ortiz, Rachel Stagi, and Elvia Valenzuela.

Overall, it was a good time to experience this year at  the 2015 Our Steps. Both students and faculty members showed both great effort and hard work.

Kelly Perez, Junior at Lincoln and also an Intermediate dancer said, “I had lots of fun, it was a new experience for me.”
