Here in downtown San Jose, Cinco De Mayo 2014 had more police out than usual. There were 193 police officers and 38 sergeants out directing traffic, patrolling and controlling the crowd.

As a result, there was a higher arrest count this year than last year. This year, there were 21 arrests but only 38 citations – which are fewer citations than last year. The intersection on 4th and Santa Clara (downtown) near City Hall was blocked off because of “cruising.” Another place very active this Cinco De Mayo was the County Fairgrounds.

There was also a small “riot” near Roosevelt Park where a group of people started walking around the streets, throwing bottles and even shaking city buses.
