The Pep Band performs a song during the Sept. 12 football game.

Rumors have been going around campus that the Pep Band has a “cursed” song that it avoids playing at football games at all costs. Well, the rumor is true.

“Another One Bites the Dust” has been banned from music books and band instruments since last week because of the incident that happened at the Sept. 12th football game.

Band director Mr. McKenzie came up with the idea of the song “Another One Bites the Dust” being cursed because it always seems to be followed by an injury. The Pep Band has played this song on two occasions, and McKenzie revealed that, “while playing the song, two players got hurt.”

Lincoln’s football team played against Santa Teresa two weeks ago, and right after the Pep Band had finished playing the song, the stadium lights went dark. Because of the fact that every time they play this song our football team ends up having problems, the song will not be played again this year.

McKenzie said, “I’m not an incredibly superstitious person. The first time it happened it was funny, but after the second time I decided not to play it again.”

Maybe it is for the best that this song has been taken out of the band’s repertoire, as unfortunate football players will no longer “bite the dust” just because of music.
