Lunch detention is given to discipline students when they are not doing what they’re supposed to. People think that lunch detention is useless because it takes time away from eating lunch and hanging out with friends. Though, the reality is that you can still eat your food as long as you sit and reflect about what you did wrong.

You are not allowed to do talk or be on electronic devices. Lunch is provided if you are assigned to be in the basement. But, if a teacher assigns you lunch detention, things works differently. Some teachers may ask you to sit in their class for only five minutes, others may ask you to grab your lunch and be with them the entire lunch.

My experience in lunch detention have not been entirely bad. During lunch detention I either read, write, or take a nap. Depending on the adult supervising lunch detention, I may talk to them or the people around me.

Although lunch detention isn’t that bad, I try to avoid it. The reason I received lunch detention was for not wearing my P.E shirt to P.E class. I had to sit in the gym for approximately 5 minutes and then I was allowed to go outside and enjoy the rest of my lunch.

Often students receive lunch detention in the basement for ditching class or not obeying class rules. Teachers may keep someone in if they misbehave in class, distracting the people around them, or being disrespectful.

Lunch detention is totally avoidable as long as you follow the rules at school.

After all, Lincoln’s motto is “do right.”
