This year was the 81st annual Big Bone football game, held on Thursday, September 6, 2024, at San Jose High School, where the Abraham Lincoln High School Lions again played against their rivals, The San Jose High School Bulldogs. Before the game, the Lincoln Band marched out leading the Varsity football team, as they were hyping the game even more, making the vibe of the game more intense as they walked into the field.
As the game started, the atmosphere on both sides was intense, making the students more anxious and excited for the end results. Both sections of the schools were screaming chants, making the game more hyped for the players of the schools, as well both school bands were playing music to make the game more intense.
As halftime approached, both, “Little Bone” and “Big Bone” Royalty was an event that happens every year where a student must be nominated by a teacher first and then get votes from students to be pronounced king and queen. In addition to the royalty being announced, there was halftime performances by the Lincoln Convertibles and cheerleaders from both teams. After a long process of nominating and voting, both seniors who were selected as “Big Bone” Royalty were Lynette Guzman and Adrian Luerra for Big Bone King and Queen.
As the game ended Lincoln won by a big advantage with a score of 42-0. The players who scored touchdowns were #5, Ezariah Sofeni grade 12, #9 Jonathan Medina grade 11, #11 Lucas Martinez grade 11, #18 Ryan Bernwanger grade 11, #21 Kyan Phillips grade 11, #37 Eric Manivong grade 11, and #13 Leo Molina grade 11 as the team’s kicker being able to make all three extra point attempts. After a tough game for the Lincoln Lions, it was all worth it in the end as they made it their 28th time in a row winning the “Big Bone” for Lincoln.
At the end of the game, the players of Lincoln High School were celebrating their win over San Jose High School. Lincoln’s football players were waiting to celebrate their victory with the Big Bone itself. Once Dr. Heffernan approached the football team with the Big Bone, everyone got more excited waiting to lift it, finally having the Big Bone again for the 28th time. Everyone celebrated with excitement to win the Big Bone once more making it another historical year for Lincoln High School.
